AHS Jazz Ensembles
The Atholton High School Jazz Ensembles are a way for student can experience high levels of music making, enjoy the music making process, and understand the value and legacy of jazz as an art form. Jazz Band provides opportunities for students to enjoy and appreciate a more full spectrum of music and education. The bands consistent of the traditional jazz instruments, which includes all saxes, trumpet, trombone, and rhythm section, and will perform repertoire from the traditional and contemporary jazz lexicon.

The Atholton High School Jazz Big Band is an all-encompassing group where students who are interested and prepared to commit are welcome to join the group. This ensemble is geared towards anyone looking to having fun making high levels of music. This group performs at concerts during the school year.
Students must play one of the following instruments:

The AHS Jazz Combo is an auditioned group made up from members of the AHS Jazz Band.* This smaller, more selective group is meant for students who have interest in playing jazz at a higher level in a smaller setting. This chamber jazz environment allows for an emphasis on developing improvisation and communication within the ensemble. This group performs at school concerts throughout the year in addition to opportunities throughout the community to share our sounds!
Students in the Jazz Combo MUST be enrolled in a performing ensemble in order to participate. Excerptions are granted to the following instruments: guitar, piano, and bass (electric; upright must be enrolled). * Note: Exceptions may be made for those enrolled in other extracurricular jazz programs and are unable to meet the Jazz Ensemble Requirements. |
